The dimensions for the Quantity Table can be taken off a floor plans. Typically, you will do the following to measure the areas and perimeters on a plan.
  1. Import the plan from a file stored on the local computer.

  2. Scale the plan.

  3. Trace the plan objects, such as rooms and landscape features.

Plan Import

  1. To import a plan, click the 'Import' button in the Plan group.

  2. The Add Plan dialog will appear and the system will prompt to select a plan file.

    If the file dialog does not open, click 'Browse...'.

  3. Select the file. It should be an image in one of the following formats: pdf, jpeg, png, gif, bmp, tiff or svg.

    If the file is a PDF, use the << and >> buttons to move between pages.

  4. Click 'Add' to import the selected image. If the file is a PDF, after importing one page you can select another page and press Add again to import multiple plans from the same file.

  5. The last added plan will be opened.

    Use the thumbnails at the bottom to switch between plans.


  1. To zoom in or out, use the mouse wheel or the magnifying glass icons in the toolbar. When zooming using the mouse wheel, point the cursor at the area that should stay in focus.

  2. To pan, press and hold the mouse button and drag the plan. Alternatively, you can use the horizontal and vertical scrollbars.

Plan Scaling

  1. Click the scaling tool button if the tool is not selected.

  2. Choose a segment of a known length.

    The longer the segment, the more accurate will be the results.
  3. Click the start and end of the segment and then enter its length.

  4. Once the plan has been scaled, the system will start showing the current scale in the top-left corner.

  5. To scale a plan that has different vertical and horizontal scales, click the Scale XY button and repeat the above steps for a vertical and a horizontal segment of a known length.

Plan Rotation

To rotate a plan, use the plan rotation buttons in the ribbon.


  1. To use take-off to calculate the quantity for an item, focus the item in the estimate.

    The Quantity Table for the item will be displayed at the bottom.

    The yellow rectangle indicates the dimension that will be taken off.

  2. To automatically add a new line to the Quantity Table and take off Length, just leave the table as it is and proceed to the next step.

    To take off a different dimension, e.g. Width or Height, focus the dimension cell.

    To take off a dimension for an existing line, focus the cell to take off.

    If a cell that cannot be taken off, such as Description, is focused, the Length cell will be used by default.

  3. Click the tracing tool button if the tool is not selected.

  4. Choose the result type. You can change the result type later as you trace.

  5. Trace an object on the plan, such as a room, by clicking its corners one by one. To finish tracing, press Enter, click the OK button in the ribbon or click the start point to close the shape.

  6. The measurement will be finalised, a new item will be added to the Quantity Table if required, and the takeoff result will be added to the list on the right-hand side.

    Change the item name and enter or take off other dimensions, if required. For instance, in the above example you can enter the wall height in the Height column to calculate the vertical area for the room.

  7. To cancel drawing, press Esc or click the Cancel button.

    To undo last action press Ctrl-Z or click Undo in the Ribbon.

    To redo last undone action, press Ctrl-Y or click Redo in the Ribbon.

Editing Measurements

  1. Click the selection tool button if the tool is not active.

  2. Double-click the measurement to be edited.

  3. To move a node, click it. The node will start moving with the cursor. Place it at a new location by a second click.

  4. To add a new node, click the line. A new node will be created and it will start moving with the cursor. Click the point where the node should be placed.

  5. To delete one or more nodes, click a node to start moving it and then click another existing node. All nodes between these two nodes will be deleted and the nodes themselves will be merged into one.

Selecting Outlines in a Plan

You may need to select outlines to find the lines in the Quantity Table that use them or to add existing outlines to a measurement.

First, activate the Selection Tool.

  1. To select a single measurement, click it.

  2. To select a number of measurements, click them one by one holding the Shift key. You can switch between plans while selecting.

  3. To toggle selection for a particular measurement, click it while holding the Ctrl key.

  4. To unselect everything, click the current plan outside of any shapes.

Finding results for outlines in a Plan

To find rows in the Quantity Table that use particular take-off outlines, select the outlines.

The rows that use them will be highlighted.

Changing Measurement Result Type

  1. Focus the dimension cell.

  2. Click the result type button in the toolbar.

  3. The result type will be changed.

Reusing Outlines

To reuse the outline of a measurement created for this or a different calculation sheet, do the following.
  1. Open the plan that contains the measurement.

  2. If the shape is not used in the current sheet, click the Show All Shapes button.

    The outlines of all measurements will be displayed.

  3. Pick the selection tool and select the outlines to import.

  4. Click the Add to Sheet button.

    The outline result (length, area or count) will be added to the selected dimension.


To make the line total negative, click the '+' sign to change it to '-'.

Deleting Takeoff Results

To delete a result, do the following.
  1. Select the result.

  2. Click Delete in the ribbon.
